The men's leather bomber jacket according to Jitrois

At Jitrois, the men's leather bomber jacket — the blouson, in the vocabulary of French couture — is defined by its spirit rather than its length. A classic of menswear, the leather jacket is the piece of the wardrobe that combines comfort and elegance. It is the sporty piece of the men's wardrobe, the one that asserts the style and personality of the man who wears it: a zip, a high collar, a ribbed band, utility pockets or a biker line. The tailored jacket, by contrast, borrows its codes from tailoring and is found in the men's leather jackets collection.

The leather jacket lies at the very origin of the house: Jean-Claude Jitrois's journey began with his father's aviator jacket. The house keeps its codes, gives them a couture modernity, then fits them to the body thanks to stretch leather. The Jitrois men's leather bomber jacket is designed for men looking for a statement piece, fitted to their build and made to last.

Aviator, bomber, perfecto: what the names mean

The vocabulary of the leather jacket comes from military and motorcycle wear. The aviator jacket, also called the pilot's jacket, is the flyer's piece: high collar, fitted waist, zip pockets, often lined with fur. The bomber takes its ribbed band at the collar, cuffs and waist. The teddy, a short jacket with a round collar and ribbed trims, comes from the varsity wardrobe. All keep a vintage spirit that the house reworks with modernity. The perfecto, the motorcyclist's jacket that appeared in the late 1920s, is recognised by its rock style, asymmetric closure and wide lapels. The racer jacket, more pared back, closes with a straight collar. At Jitrois, the M1 and the JULES carry the bomber heritage, the PILLET and the ROCCO the biker heritage, the BYRON and the NEO the racer heritage.

Stretch leather, the material of the Jitrois jacket

Jean-Claude Jitrois invented stretch leather in the mid-1990s, after more than forty years of working with leather. A full-grain lambskin is bonded to a cotton and elastane fibre: the men's leather jacket then follows the shoulder, the build and the arm like a knit, and returns to its shape. This invention made leather a material for couture clothing. Like all leather, it protects from the wind and keeps warmth through the in-between seasons and the cooler months.

This suppleness allows the house to cut a jacket close to the body while preserving freedom of movement. Plongé lambskin, denser and naturally fluid, is used for the MERCURY, the JASON, the TRIUMPH and the JULES. The thick stretch leather of the ANGEL gives more structure, and full-grain leather, the most durable and most beautiful choice, softens with wear.

Close-fitting zip-front jackets: NEO, BYRON, MERCURY, ATRIX

The NEO is a zip-front jacket in stretch plongé lambskin, cut like a second skin from the high collar to the waist. Sculpted seams map the chest, shoulders and back, and a full-length zip closes it to the collar. It comes in black and titanium, a washed metallic finish that catches the light.

The BYRON is the most versatile jacket of the line: a clean, close-fitting cut in stretch lambskin, a Mandarin collar and an integrated matte zip. It comes in black, brown, taupe grey and dune. The MERCURY, in plongé lambskin, plays on contrasting zips: silver on black, matte black on white. The ATRIX, sportier, in black stretch lambskin, closes with a front zip and is topped with a hood: it is the hooded jacket of the line.

Biker jackets: PILLET and ROCCO

The PILLET takes the biker silhouette into a more pared-back line, in stretch lambskin, fitted to the body and punctuated by its zips: wide openings and horizontal chest zips. It comes in black and light khaki.

The ROCCO, in high-gloss black patent lambskin, closes with an asymmetric moto zip. Its wide collar can be worn open or stood up, its padded shoulders with articulated panels give it an armoured line, ribbed patent bands cross the back and the cuffs close with a zip. It is the evening jacket of the line.

Bomber and aviator jackets: M1 and JULES

The M1 reinterprets the aviator jacket in stretch lambskin: a stand collar closed with a button, zip pockets and a relaxed cut that moves with the body. It comes in night blue and mineral green, the two signature colours of the line.

The JULES is the house bomber: a body in black plongé lambskin and suede sleeves, for a play of matte and shine. A ribbed collar, cuffs and waistband frame its supple shape, and welt pockets keep the line clean.

Utility and graphic jackets: ANGEL, TRIUMPH, JASON

The ANGEL, in thick black stretch leather, brings a stronger presence: chest patch pockets, an exposed zip, a sleeve pocket and a round collar. The TRIUMPH, in plongé lambskin, builds its line in three tones, black, blue and white, for a graphic allure.

The JASON, in black plongé lambskin, draws a vertical structure underlined by exposed zips, beneath a buttoned neckline that sharpens the line.

The exceptional piece: OVERSPORTS

The OVERSPORTS is an oversized jacket in sheer silk organza, embroidered with plongé lambskin. It falls to the thigh, and its smocked cuffs and hem gather the volume. Unisex, it is the couture piece of the line.

How to wear a men's leather bomber jacket

The Jitrois men's leather bomber jacket sets the tone of a look and brings a touch of character. Its versatility makes it the ally of the in-between seasons, from the office to dinner. Over leather trousers from the house, it creates a tonal silhouette; over raw denim and a white shirt, it brings a daytime allure. An all-black look, a timeless and versatile colour, remains its most elegant version, and leather boots extend the line. A close-fitting cut, like the NEO or the BYRON, suits slim builds; a more relaxed cut, like the M1 or the JULES, gives more ease; made to measure fits each jacket to the build.

  • A black BYRON over raw denim and a white shirt
  • An ATRIX over a light sweatshirt and straight trousers, at the weekend
  • A NEO over black HK leather trousers, as a total look
  • A night blue M1 over a fine knit and straight trousers
  • A JULES over a white T-shirt, at the weekend
  • A ROCCO over a black shirt, for the evening

Couture craftsmanship, handcrafted in France

The Jitrois house has shaped leather as a couture material for more than forty years. Each men's leather jacket is cut, assembled and finished by hand in France. The house presents four collections a year, each season in two parts: pre-collection and main collection. Each model can be ordered made to measure, at the boutique at 38 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré or online; close to 30% of orders are made to measure. The leather jacket carries through the in-between seasons and autumn-winter; in the deep cold, coats take over, and the men's leather coats carry the same standard into a longer, more covering length.

Frequently asked questions

Which men's leather bomber jackets does Jitrois offer?

The Jitrois house offers twelve models of men's leather jackets: close-fitting zip-front (NEO, BYRON, MERCURY, ATRIX), biker (PILLET, ROCCO), bomber and aviator (JULES, M1), utility and graphic (ANGEL, TRIUMPH, JASON) and an exceptional piece in organza embroidered with leather (OVERSPORTS).

What is a good brand for a men's leather jacket?

A high-end leather house is recognised by the quality of the skin, handcrafting and the possibility of fitting the piece to the build. Jitrois combines all three, with its mastery of stretch leather, which it invented in the mid-1990s.

How much is a Jitrois men's leather bomber jacket?

Jitrois men's leather jackets start at €2,490 for the NEO. The BYRON is €2,990, the JULES €3,790, the M1 €4,250, the ROCCO €5,590. The OVERSPORTS, an exceptional piece in embroidered organza, is €8,590.

How do you recognise a quality leather jacket?

Quality leather is recognised first by touch, supple and warm. The grain is that of a natural skin, the seams are fine and even, and the zips glide with precision. At Jitrois, each skin is selected one by one and each jacket is handcrafted in France.

Is the leather jacket still in fashion?

The leather jacket has carried through the eras since the aviator jackets and the motorcyclists' perfectos. A clean cut and a deep shade make it an investment, a piece designed to last and outlive trends, well beyond a single season.

How do you care for a stretch leather jacket?

A Jitrois leather jacket is entrusted to a leather specialist for deep dry cleaning. Regular care by this specialist nourishes the leather and preserves its suppleness and shine. Day to day, a soft cloth is enough for spot cleaning. Between wears, it is kept on a wide hanger, away from direct light, humidity and liquids.

Can you order a made-to-measure leather jacket online?

Each Jitrois men's leather jacket can be ordered made to measure, at the Faubourg Saint-Honoré boutique or online, after a set of measurements validated by the house. Contact: customerservice@jitrois.com.
